Growing wisdom

Watching the movie Groundhog Day last night brought up many feelings. My beloved and I enjoyed this funny movie for many years, and this was my first time watching it without her.

Right now I am reading the Tablet of Wisdom in a 1978 edition of the Tablets of Bahá’u’lláh. She heavily underlined and annotated this copy. It’s very moving to see what she saw and emphasized. She underlined most of a paragraph and wrote next to it “love thy neighbor”.

Her brother has a practice of reading one of the chapters of Proverbs each day from the Old Testament. Whatever scriptures we sip from to grow our wisdom, whether from Solomon or Jesus or the Buddha, this passage my beloved underlined in red has inspired me to grow my wisdom to be a better person.

By the righteousness of the Lord! Ye were created to show love one to another and not perversity and rancour. Take pride not in love for yourselves but in love for your fellow-creatures. Glory not in love for your country, but in love for all mankind. Let your eye be chaste, your hand faithful, your tongue truthful and your heart enlightened.
– Bahá’u’lláh, Lawḥ-i-Ḥikmat (Tablet of Wisdom)
